ECOLLAW Conference Proceedings (including conference presentations, photographs and list of participants)
A
four day conference on the Environmental Change in Lakes, Lagoons
and Wetlands of the Southern Mediterranean Region took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Zamalek, Cairo 4-7th January 2006. This
was the 1st International Conference, organised jointly between University
College London (UK) and the National Authority for Remote Sensing & Space Sciences (NARSS), with supportive links from the EU-INCO
funded project MELMARINA (Monitoring & Modelling Coastal Lagoons: Making Management Tools for Aquatic
Resources in North Africa).
Delegates of a variety of nationalities attended the conference, including those from North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt), Europe (UK, Malta, Denmark, Italy), Israel, India and Canada. Oral presentations took place over the four days covering a diverse array of topics concerning the environments of lakes, lagoons and wetlands and their management.
Selected papers will be published together in the near future.
We thank all those who attended for contributing to a successful and enjoyable meeting of scientists from North Africa and beyond and we hope this furthers research in these important and sensitive environments.
